New Canstar research shows that many Australians are quietly reassessing their housing situation. According to the survey, more than one in four homeowners are considering their next move over the coming year. The figures vary across the states, with Queensland showing the highest proportion of people thinking about listing in the next two years, followed by Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales. South Australia remains the most stable.
The motivations are diverse. Almost 40 per cent of respondents considering a change are looking at smaller, more manageable homes. Others are thinking about upgrading, while a portion are reviewing their situation due to repayments or broader economic conditions. This reflects the normal ebb and flow of how Australians adjust to life stages, budgets and lifestyle priorities.
The research also highlights how different groups are experiencing the market. Many borrowers feel prepared for interest rates to hold steady over the next year, while investor sentiment remains relatively stable. Renters, however, report more financial pressure, with rising rents affecting day-to-day expenses for a large share of households.
Insights like these help paint a clearer picture of how Australians are feeling and how they’re making decisions in a shifting economic landscape.
